I stayed in a hotel and had a very good view to the "Matterhorn" from my balcony on 1950 m. At the day after arriving I visited the huge glacier "Aletschgletscher". It is the greatest glacier in the european alps and nowadays protected by the UNESCO. The global warming is a substantial problem for the glacier, but it is still 23 km long and has a breadth of 900 m. The weight is about 27 thousand million metric tons.

On my way to the glacier, I took the street to "Riederalp" and than to the top to the "Villa Cassel". The Villa lays on 2000 m and was build by the british millionaire Cassel in the early 20th century. The young Churchill spend here some time as a guest of Cassel. It is a nice place to make a short delay and enjoy the beautiful mountain panorama. 5 minutes later you will see the glacier, if you have chosen the right way to the "Aletschgletscher". I visited the region in July and I had some awesome thundersturms in the evening, but before evenig it was very suitable.
